Setting up a Dial Up connection in Windows 95


  1. Click on My Computer and then open the Control Panel or Click on START | Settings| Control Panel
  2. Select Internet Options and a screen with six tabs should open (shown below). Click on the Connections tab.

  1. Click on Setup button and that will start the Connection Wizard
  2. When the installation screen appears, click on Next.

  1. Select I want to set up a new connection on this computer to my existing Internet account through my phone line or a local area network, and click on the Next button.

  1. Ensure 'Connect using my Phone Line' is selected, and click Next.

  1. At this point you may be asked to either install a new modem (ie. "You Need a Modem" screen) or to choose a modem to connect with. In the example below, we had to install a new modem.

  1. After the modem is installed/chosen, fill out the following dialogue box as follows:
    Click Next to continue

  1. The phone number is 380-3222.
    Also ensure the box entitled Dial using the area code and country code is unchecked. Click on Next to continue.

  1. In the box for User Name, enter the username you selected at DataBoss. For the box entitled Password, enter the password you selected at DataBoss. The systems are case sensitive (use lowercase). After you have entered the information click on Next.

  1. For advanced settings, select Yes, and click on Next.

  1. Click on Next until you reach the following IP Address screen. Select My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one, then click on Next.

  1. For your DNS server and alternate DNS server, select My Internet service provider automatically sets this when I sign in; it will leave the DNS server options blank. Click Next then select Yes, then click Finish.


NOTE: If you get a screen with the message "If you don't specify a DNS server you may not
be able to find servers on the Internet. Are you sure you want to continue?" Click on Yes.

  1. For the connection name, type in: DataBoss then click on Next.

  1. When you are asked to setup your Internet mail account, select No, then click Next.

  1. When you are asked to setup your Internet news account, select No, then click on Next.

  1. When you are asked to setup your Internet Directory Service, select No, then click on Next.

  1. Click on Finish. You have now setup your internet dial-in.

Making your new Internet Connection shortcut

1. Double click on My Computer

2. Double click on Dial-Up Networking.

3. Right click and Drag DataBoss connection onto your desktop and select Create Shortcut here.
